Barenbrug Sport Catalogue

Today, products such as Fescue, SGT Fine Fescue, and Ultrafine products are key to keeping the Old Course in excellent year-round condition. In addition to the Old Course, St Andrews Links Trust manages the New, Jubilee, Eden, Strathtyrum and Balgove courses as well as the Castle Course, sown out with Barenbrug seed and opened in 2008. Sandy Reid, Director of Greenkeeping, commented, “Our ongoing supplier agreement with Barenbrug for grass seed is valued. We always strive for the best, and the quality of product and support we receive is second to none in my opinion.” Endurance is the defining quality of the Old Course, and often of its players. Nearly 500 years on, it welcomes 50,000 rounds annually, together with a constant stream of caddies, and (literally) every man and his dog walking over the public ground on a normal Sunday. Tournament golf is never far away from the Old Course either. Host to the Open Championship for the 30th time in 2022, the Walker Cup matches for the ninth time in 2023 (100 years on from their second playing), the Old Course will welcome the best female golfers in the world for the Women’s Open for the third time in 2024. The hallowed turf may feel as if it has been there forever but is under a regime of constant maintenance and inevitable replacement, by means of divot fill and overseeding. For almost thirty years, St Andrews Links Trust has used Barenbrug grass seed for this essential work.
